You won’t find a lengthy explanation about UTI, bladder and kidney infections in this article (for more information, go here), but you will find a great way to heal yourself quickly and without antibiotics. Here’s the recipe. It really works!
6 oz water
1/2 fresh squeezed lemon
1 tablespoon vinegar
Alternative sweetener to taste (I use stevia)
1 teaspoon D-mannose
Oh! Don’t have D-mannose? Don’t know what it is? Here’s the information from NOW brand’s powdered D-mannose that is probably available at just about any health food store. Here’s the back of the bottle.
“D-mannose is a naturally occurring simple sugar that your body utilizes to help cleanse the urinary tract and maintain a healthy bladder lining. It’s metabolized only in small amounts, with excess amounts rapidly excreted in urine, so it won’t interfere with healthy blood sugar regulation. Clinical studies have demonstrated that when taken regularly, D-mannose promotes normal urinary tract function by cleansing and maintaining the health of the bladder lining.”
Here’s the front of the bottle.
If you’re skeptical (like me), read Dr. Mercola’s article or research Google for the clinical trials.
I recommend using the powder. It’s cheaper and your body doesn’t have to digest any capsules.
Why the lemon and vinegar together? Each is a different kind of acid. Lemon is good for rebuilding your gut flora so you can fight these infections. Vinegar (with the mother) breaks down excess fats and substances that your body has not eliminated – call it ‘sludge’. We all have it unless we are working constantly to remove it.
Here’s how to does yourself:
Drink the above concoction every 2-3 hours throughout the day for 2 days. Take it 3 times a day for another 3 days so that you’ve taken this drink for 5 days. Infections and inflammation can easily recur if you stop doing this regimen after only a couple of days.
IMPORTANT instruction. Don’t drink any other liquid for at least 45 minutes. This allows time for the drink to move through your kidneys and into the bladder where it can begin enticing those e-coli critters to attach to it.
(OK, it’s time for a little explanation. The e-coli bugs have hooks on their tendrils that attach to sugar. Our bladders are lined with sugar from our high sugar diets, thus the little critters like it in there. They get warm, cozy and well-fed and then they multiply causing your infection. D-mannose is a better looking sugar to them, so they detach from the lining of your bladder and attack to the D-mannose, instead. When you pee, out they go! And when yo’ve peed enough, you eliminate the bugs without the need for harmful antibiotics.)
I dislike complicated regimens, therefore I look for the easiest, cheapest and most effective way to do things. For my cystitis, this one is the best I’ve found. And, no, cranberry doesn’t work for me.
Use this drink periodically throughout the week to maintain bladder health and prevent future outbreaks. I use a 1 liter bottle, adapting the recipe for the amounts, and drink it throughout the day.
